‘The feeling’ – Unai Emery has already shared verdict as Aston Villa transfer draws near

Unai Emery has already praised Luton Town’s outstanding player Ross Barkley, and the midfielder is now set to join Aston Villa in a cheap deal.

The Villans are close to acquiring Barkley, kicking off a big summer of transfer business. Qualifying for the Champions League presents new challenges and expectations, therefore Emery must strengthen crucial areas of his squad.

Boubacar Kamara’s significant knee injury in February caused several selection headaches, forcing players like John McGinn and Youri Tielemans to move into the double pivot. Emery would have loved to use those specific players wide or further forward.

Barkley’s impending arrival will address that issue, as the former Chelsea player will provide competition for Douglas Luiz while allowing McGinn and Tielemans to roam. Emery might even move the trio around, allowing Barkley to break into advanced areas.

The 33-time England international is a graduate of Everton’s Finch Farm system and has previously played for Villa, on loan from Chelsea during the 2020/21 season. Barkley contributed three goals and one assist in 24 appearances during his first tenure.

Emery has already praised. Barkley

Due to Luton’s relegation to the Championship, Villa will barely have to spend anything to re-sign Barkley. Emery will be overjoyed, as the head coach has identified the 30-year-old as a target. He also praised the player earlier this season, before Villa faced Luton.

“He’s playing quite well. They are all in a good mood, not just Barkley. “They are confident and playing strong,” Emery stated ahead of the Villans’ 3-2 victory at Kenilworth Road in early March.

“Maybe they haven’t had fantastic results because they didn’t win their recent matches, but they are playing extremely well. I admire their aggressive, man-to-man, and combination play style. Barkley is in a very good place,” Emery added.
