Player to slot in seamlessly at Aston Villa as Fabrizio Romano drops transfer news

According to Alan Hutton, Ross Barkley won’t play every week at Aston Villa under Unai Emery; instead, he will just be a rotation option.

The 30-year-old midfielder, who was demoted to the Championship, had a fantastic season at Luton Town, where he was a star for Rob Edwards’ team and put up several standout displays.

Before the summer transfer market opens, Barkley’s performances are said to have piqued Emery’s interest. Fabrizio Romano (20 May) stated that the Villans are in advanced negotiations to bring the former England international to Villa Park.

Hutton acknowledges that he doesn’t think the former Everton star will start every week, but he still believes the player will fit in “seamlessly” at Aston Villa, acknowledging that having a strong bench could be essential to Emery’s team this season.

Hutton told Villa News, “I think he is an experienced player who makes the squad better.”

Do I believe that he plays every single week? That will be up to him because I’m not sure. They clearly need Boubacar Kamara to return, as well as Douglas Luiz—who is the subject of rumors—and John McGinn.

“Since you have a variety of choices, I believe he will contend for those spots, but I’m not sure if he will start every week.

That’s presumably what hasn’t been witnessed with Villa over the past few months as they’ve sustained multiple injuries.

“You look at the bench at the weekend and it’s full of young players, which is fantastic because it gives them their chance to step up and shine, but the squad needs to be larger and have more experience if you want to compete in the Champions League and finish in the top four.

“I really liked him when he first came to the club, and he knows what the club is about. It’s unfortunate that he got an injury that hindered him.”

“But he can blend right in because he understands the whole point of it and knows a lot of the boys.”

Will Aston Villa sign Luton Town star Ross Barkley during the summer transfer window?

As Hutton notes, for the past few months, Villa’s lack of depth has become apparent. In particular, Emery is reduced to nothing in the middle of the park with Kamara and Youri Tielemans out due to injuries.

Barkley has demonstrated that he is more than capable of performing at an exceptionally high level in regular Premier League action. If he performs at the same level as he did at Luton Town (claret and blue), he might have a significant impact at Villa Park.

It remains to be seen if he can consistently make his way into the starting lineup, but in the end, the 30-year-old has to convince Emery that he is superior to the players he currently has.
