A new deal with Kilmarnock is still possible for former Rangers and Celtics players following several contract choices by the Premiership side.

Killie had a fantastic season under Derek McInnes, securing European football with a fourth-place finish.

However, improving is a must in European football, thus Killie must make severe decisions over their retained roster in advance of the upcoming

campaign. The team has now declared that Steven Warnock, Aaron Quigg, Jack Sanders, and Kerr McInroy will all be released at the conclusion of their individual contracts.

New contracts are still being discussed with Kieran O’Hara, Marley Watkins, Gary Mackay-Steven, Greg Stewart, Innes Cameron, and Liam Polworth.

There are two former players on that list that are related to Celtic and Rangers. Between 2015 and 2017, Mackay-Steven was a member of the Hoops, appearing in 46 league games and taking home three Premiership trophies along with a League Cup.

Despite just having seven league matches under his belt, the 33-year-old has been with Kilmarnock since 2023. Regarding the Rangers’

representation, Greg Stewart attended the Ibrox academy before returning to play in 21 league games from 2019 to 2021.

After moving from Mumbai City to Killie in January, the now 34-year-old has made eight league appearances for the team. “It’s that time of year where you’re trying to free up some space in the squad; on reflection, there are boys who have departed that have been here a long time,” Kilmarnock manager Derek McInnes stated in reference to the retained list decisions.

We appreciate everything they’ve done for this club and wish them luck in the future. “Kerr and Jack were on loan, but they were able to play and will have an advantage over their next teams because of that.

Young Aaron Quigg has performed admirably, but we’re hoping he can go on to play regular, settled football because he was left out of an official reserve league for months at a time. He did play for Albion Rovers while on loan.

We tried to obtain Steven Warnock good loans last season, but there wasn’t enough interest, which surprised my staff and me. He is a sore spot for us. We’ve worked hard to try and identify this brilliant boy—who has been a member of the club for a long time—whatever his next step is, it’s not going to be at Kilmarnock, which is disappointing for both of us.

We plan to stay in touch with him and offer our further support; maybe, he will show off his skills at his next club.

The retained list was received subsequent to McInnes’s signing of a new deal as manager of Kilmarnock.

He went on, “I’ll appreciate it now since I know I won’t get to enjoy it for too long, but the desire will shift next season.”
