Gary Lineker lauds ‘exuberant’ Jordan Pickford at Everton in Team of the Season verdict

Jordan Pickford had a “outstanding” season with Everton, and both Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer agreed on their Premier League Team of the Season.

With 38 league starts under his belt and a key role in the Toffees’ Premier League safety, the 30-year-old custodian has established himself as a staple in Sean Dyche’s squad.

Pickford has received a lot of criticism lately for a few of his errors and performances, but it is evident that he has come through greatly for Goodison Park at a difficult period.

Speaking on Wednesday, May 22, Alan Shearer stated via The Rest is Football podcast: “Pickford and Raya were the two I was debating with.” Both of them have had fantastic seasons. But Jordan Pickford is my choice.

In response, Gary Lineker said, “I’m going for Pickford too.” I’m shocked that we both agreed. I believe he’s been fantastic for a number of reasons. Of course, he’s far busier than someone like Raya. Although Ederson and Allison are excellent goalkeepers, they occasionally make blunders.

David Raya made a few errors, but he overcame them. Conversely, Pickford has made 121 saves as opposed to 46 by Raya, 57 by Ederson, and 83 by Allison. Despite having given up more goals than the others, I think he’s been outstanding.

“Among the explanations for Everton’s success in the face of point deductions. Although he has somewhat calmed down, he still occasionally gets a little too eager and energetic.

In closing, Shearer said, “With the points deduction, it’s been a really tough season for Everton, but he’s been excellent doing his part.” He’s made some crucial saves, and I agree that he’s calmed down—he can get very excited at times.

Does Everton star Jordan Pickford deserve to be in the Premier League Team of the Season?

Indeed. Despite Raya’s performances at the Emirates Stadium, Pickford has earned a berth in this year’s Team of the Season.

Even though the Gunners are anticipated to field a strong defence, Dyche’s efforts on defence appear to have gone unnoticed; only Manchester City, Arsenal, and Liverpool have allowed less goals this year.

Of course, James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite’s center-back combination has been equally crucial for the Toffees, but one of a team’s most critical components is a confident goalie.

Since moving to Goodison Park in the summer of 2017, Pickford has triumphed over numerous challenges, making nearly 300 appearances and become something of a cult hero within the team.

Like most goalkeepers these days, he will always have a “exuberant” side to him, but this season has seen a true maturation as Everton fights against all the odds to stay afloat in the Premier League.
