On the last day of the Premier League season, the Lilywhites proved they were worthy of the competition as they defeated Sheffield United 3-0 to guarantee fifth place. Ange Postecoglou’s team overcame some setbacks towards the end of the season to qualify for the Europa League for the first time since 2020–21.
In other news, the Blues defeated Bournemouth 2-1 to take sixth place. But it’s unclear whether Chelsea will participate in the Europa League next season until Man United plays Manchester City in the FA Cup final.
The Red Devils will join the Spurs if they defeat their opponents, while Pochettino’s team will fall into the Conference League. However, starting with the 2024–2025 season, the Europa League will follow a new format.

A new-look group stage
To secure a spot in the competition, certain clubs will need to participate in three qualifying rounds prior to a play-off round that takes place in July and August. Then, there will be a single 36-team league stage in place of the current four-team group stage.
Eight distinct clubs will be faced once by each club, four at home and four away. The top eight teams advance straight to the round of 16, while the teams that place ninth through twenty-four compete in the knockout round play-offs. The winners of all eight two-leg ties advance to the round of 16.
