Confirmed: Everton ace to be left out of Euro 2024 squad

It has been announced that Everton defender Nathan Patterson’s hamstring injury will prevent him from travelling to Europe in 2024 with Scotland.

Patterson was benched for the remainder of the Premier League season after being replaced during Chelsea’s 6-0 loss against them last month.

The Scotland national team’s assistant coach, John Carver, has now officially said that Aaron Hickey, a defender for Brentford, and Patterson have both lost their fight to be fit for the tournament alongside Lewis Ferguson.

He told STV Sport, “You can also throw Nathan Patterson from Everton into that as well,” on May 20.

Lewis Ferguson is one of our three key players, and the other three are players who have excelled for us recently and in the qualifications. The good news is that we won’t forget about these three young guys since they should go on to win World Cups and Euros in the future.

“They have performed a fantastic job for us, but since they won’t be with us, it’s clearly someone else’s chance now. We need to stay optimistic because worrying about it won’t help us and the new players will be competitive, so this is an opportunity for them.

Nathan Patterson’s future at Everton is uncertain

Patterson is undoubtedly one of the several options the Toffees now have at right-back in their lineup.

However, Ben Godfrey appears to be the preferred option right now following a strong run of games in the latter part of the season, and Goodison Park has extended offers to both Ashley Young and veteran Seamus Coleman.

Patterson would once again be the fourth-choice option based on how the most recent season unfolded, and at 22 years old, he really needs to be playing frequently.

Given that Everton is in a financial predicament and must generate money, the likelihood is that he will be permitted to leave the team either permanently or on loan if they can find a buyer this summer.

Although it appears to be the end of the road, the athlete sees it as an opportunity to start again and possibly return to the national team setup in time for the 2026 World Cup.
