Insider for Aston Villa puzzled by Unai Emery’s call in the “dismal” loss at Crystal Palace

Bryan King finds it incomprehensible that Unai Emery did not start any academy players for Aston Villa against Crystal Palace.

The club’s “dismal” performance in their final Premier League game of the season, a 5-0 loss to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on May 19, displeased the former Villa scout.

Against the Eagles, a handful of the team’s Under-21 youngsters saw time off the bench.

However, King—speaking only to Villa News—doesn’t see why Emery didn’t give any of the South London-based club’s young players starts.

“Villa gave a very poor performance,” King remarked.

“I believe Emery would have made a wise choice if he had started some young players against Palace.

I don’t know why Emery didn‘t start with some young players because there wasn’t anything riding on the outcome of the game.

“It was a very disappointing way for Villa to end a fantastic season.”

Aston Villa and Unai Emery will want to put the Crystal Palace thumping behind them.

It has been a wonderful campaign for Villa.

Emery’s side will be playing in the UEFA Champions League next season, a remarkable achievement for the club.

Villa supporters will therefore be keen to put the Palace match behind them and look ahead to big European nights at Villa Park next season.
