£25.M Opens up on his “very difficult” summer choice, linked to Leeds United

£25m Leeds United-linked Celtic man opens up on ‘very difficult’ summer decision

Daniel Farke of Leeds United is hoping to add goals from midfield this summer, and the Danish international has been linked to the club.

Matt O’Riley declined to comment on speculation about his future, but he does believe it would be “very difficult” to leave Celtic given his continued connections to Leeds United and other European teams.

After an outstanding three years at Celtic, O’Riley has gained a lot of admirers. Leeds is still rumored to be interested in signing him. With 18 goals and 13 assists this season, the aggressive midfielder has been especially important for Brendan Rodgers’ team as they have won the Scottish Premiership.

However, there are other possible bidders outside the Elland Road administration; several stories associate O’Riley with a move away from Celtic and anyplace in Europe. Speaking after his team defeated St. Mirren 3-2 on Saturday to win the Scottish Premiership trophy, the 23-year-old would not rule out a summer transfer.

When asked about his future, O’Riley responded, “That’s a tough question.” Indeed, it would be quite challenging to leave Celtic. I’ve said before how important the club is to me. I believe that I fell in love with the club from the very beginning because of how devoted and fanatical the fans are—you know, they’re a proper fandom. Yes, I will take it from there after I finish this one more game.

O’Riley and Celtic have the minor matter of an Old Firm clash in the Scottish Cup final to look forward to later this month as they aim for a domestic double before turning their attention to the summer. Less than three weeks after that match at Hampden Park, the transfer market will begin, and that’s when things might really become interesting.

In addition to Leeds, West Ham United and Brighton, two Premier League teams, are rumored to be interested in O’Riley. Spanish powerhouses Atletico Madrid are rumored to be considering a summer transfer elsewhere.

Any acquisition of O’Riley would probably come with a hefty price tag compared to Leeds’ rumored £10 million offer, which was turned down last summer. With three years left on his contract come June, the Danish international’s next move might cost up to £25 million, according to rumors, following an incredible season.

Leeds will only spend that type of money if they are building a team that is excited about playing Premier League football. The Championship play-off final between Daniel Farke’s team and Southampton is scheduled for next weekend. However, a year in the second division would almost definitely preclude a move for Celtic’s dynamic midfielder.

Regardless of the league Leeds are in, O’Riley’s profile will probably be a top focus because Daniel Farke sorely lacks a reliable midfield goal threat. The first goal scored by a midfielder this season came via Ilia Gruev’s deft free kick in the semi-final second-leg victory over Norwich City on Thursday. Glen Kamara, Archie Gray, and Ethan Ampadu, who has also played defense, were all off target.
