This summer, their London rivals may be forced to trade Gallagher, a homegrown talent, in order to avoid facing FFP penalties. Chelsea is running out of time to cash in on Gallagher, who is out of contract next summer as well. This should give Spurs the upper hand in discussions this summer. The North London club might start things off strong by instantly taking the advantage of their competitors when the window opens.

Despite his good debut season with the Spurs, James Maddison struggled with consistency at times as the Lilywhites tried to find balance in the middle of the field. In the end, the game requires balance, which Gallagher might provide this summer. However, that balance was scarce in the second half of the season.
As an all-action midfielder, the England international would be the ideal complement to Maddison’s offensive vision, offering the presence in both boxes that they have occasionally needed. Gallagher, in particular, possesses all the qualities required to fit in into Postecoglou’s tireless system when he is not on the ball.
