Kieran Maguire: Celtic budget given ‘rocket boosters’ by £372m boost

Kieran Maguire: Celtic budget given ‘rocket boosters’ by £372m boost.

Celtic Park’s finances will see “rocket boosters” in 2024–25 when they qualify for the Champions League.

Financial expert Kieran Maguire believes as much, exclusively telling Football Insider that Celtic will make around four times as much as any club playing in the Europa League the following season.

This week, after defeating Kilmarnock 5-0 on Wednesday night (15 May), Brendan Rodgers’ team successfully defended their Scottish Premiership

title. Celtic has already secured their spot in the Champions League for the following season thanks to their championship victory.

Clubs will participate in a league structure prior to moving on to the knockout stage of the coveted European competition, which is changing its format to a Swiss-style model.

According to The New York Times, Uefa projects that the new format will bring in an extra £372 million in prize money for rival teams.

Celtic finances to boom after Champions League qualification

For the Scottish champions, Maguire clarified, the Champions League will be “quite lucrative.” Sean Fisher of Football Insider was advised by

Maguire that “Champions League qualification will give rocket boosters to Celtic’s finances.”

It will be extremely profitable for the team when the Swiss-style concept is introduced into the Champions League starting in 2024–2025.

“The prize money for the competition has been enhanced by FIFA.” “A minimum of one more home game and a minimum of one more sold-out

attendance are certain, and these figures may rise contingent on their play.

“That will much outweigh any earnings from the Europa League, which typically brings in around a fourth of what the Champions League does.”
