Aston Villa, who defeated Tottenham to secure the last UEFA Champions League slot, now have the opportunity to capture Tottenham’s top summer transfer target.
With Tuesday’s 2-0 loss to Manchester City securing the Villans’ spot in Europe’s premier club competition, Ange Postecoglou’s north London team can only place as high as fifth in the Premier League this season.
Now, as Unai Emery works to get his team ready for the UEFA Champions League, Tottenham could lose to Villa to reach a crucial goal.
Conor Gallagher is wanted by Aston Villa.
According to a report from The Sun, Postecoglou is eager to get the England international in N17 as soon as the transfer market opens in order to sign Chelsea’s No. 23 Conor Gallagher this summer.
The Londoner is seen by Dean Jones as a “dream” addition to Spurs this summer.
But the Telegraph reports that Aston Villa is now expressing interest in signing Gallagher.
There are rumours that Aston Villa and Chelsea have a close bond in the boardroom.
The Telegraph also notes that despite the 24-year-old rapidly approaching the end of his current terms, Gallagher and Chelsea have not made any headway in their negotiations for a new deal.
It’s also stated that Spurs won the race to sign the Chelsea academy graduate, even though it’s quite likely that Aston Villa is now in a better position due to their qualification for the UEFA Champions League.
Alternative for Tottenham
In the event that Spurs are unable to sign Gallagher this summer, Ebere Eze, the number 10 for Crystal Palace, is another midfield player with strong links.
The England international is reportedly high on Tottenham’s radar as Postecoglou looks to make a statement signing during the summer transfer window, according to an Independent story from February.
To add petrol to the flames, Eze, who netted an incredible free kick against Spurs in March, was rumoured to have received a box from Spurs for his group that day.
Gallagher may so be signed by Aston Villa in place of the Crystal Palace star.
