Newcastle is attempting to sign a £120k-per-week “exceptional” player this summer.

Newcastle United are pushing to complete the signing of an “exceptional” Premier League player this summer, according to an update from reliable journalist Luke Edwards.

Newcastle transfer news

The Magpies are still being linked to new arrivals during the summer transfer window as Eddie Howe’s team looks to step it up following a lackluster overall season at St James’ Park.

One player who has been tipped to conclude a move to Newcastle, should they feel the need to find an improvement over Nick Pope at the conclusion of the season, or at least offer him with serious competition, is goalkeeper Georgi Mamardashvili of Valencia.

Conversely, Sevilla’s Yosef En-Nesyri has surfaced as a possible target for the Magpies, with West Ham also having a chance to sign him. His 15 goals in 26 La Liga starts this season demonstrate the caliber of playmaker he may be for Howe’s squad.

To add depth and make up for the absence of Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles, a new center-back may also be needed. Fulham star Tosin Adarabioyo may be able to join on a free transfer from the Cottagers this season. But Manchester United is also vying for him, so Newcastle’s chances of landing their target may be slim.

Newcastle pushing to sign “exceptional” ace

The Telegraph’s Edwards claims that Aaron Ramsdale, a goalkeeper for Arsenal, is poised to quit the team this summer and that Newcastle wants to sign him.

The Englishman is reportedly being pursued by the Magpies, who are “pushing ahead with a deal” worth £15 million ahead of a “busy summer of ins and outs at St James’ Park.”

Given Ramsdale’s current circumstances at Arsenal, Newcastle has been eyeing him for some time now, so this could be a match made in heaven. With David Raya chosen by Mikel Arteta in goal, the England international has only started six Premier League games this season. Being on the bench as a substitute is not ideal for someone hoping to compete at the European Championship this summer.

Even if the £120,000-per-week star is going through a difficult time, the Magpies would still benefit much from having him, especially when it comes to playing the ball out from the back. He might even be an improvement over Pope.Additionally, Arteta has praised his “keeper” in the past, saying:

“He’s been amazing everywhere with the circumstances. similar to everyone. Definitely, we adore him more. He is with us every day. We are quite glad to have him because we know him and his character. Since I signed Aaron Ramsdale while everyone else was dubious about the move, I don’t think I should be the one to respond to inquiries on his caliber.”
