Everton could solve major problem with bargain transfer who tops Phil Foden in key area

Jacob Bruun Larsen, a Burnley winger on loan, has been linked to Everton, but what exactly might the team offer him?

James Tarkowski and Dwight McNeil, who both came to Merseyside before Blues manager Sean Dyche, are two players in the team who played for him while he was in East Lancashire. Dyche previously spent nine and a half years as the Clarets’ manager. The route from Turf Moor to Goodison Park is a well-trod path, having seen the likes of Tommy Lawton, Martin Dobson, and Trevor Steven make the move in the past.

Back in Bruun Larsen’s home country of Denmark, Bold claims that the 25-year-old has been specifically highlighted as a target for Everton and West Ham United, where former Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Julen Lopetegui will take over for David Moyes. The player has one year left on his contract with the Bundesliga team, having joined Hoffenheim from Borussia Dortmund in 2020 after rising through the youth ranks there. However, Vincent Kompany may need to work hard to persuade the player to move permanently to Burnley after Burnley is relegated straight back to the Championship.

Bruun Larsen, who has six caps for his country and one goal at the international level, has been one of the Clarets’ bright spots despite their difficulties. As of their final game at home against Nottingham Forest, they had lost 23 of their games. This season, he has already tallied a career-high seven goals, six of which have come in the Premier League.

Kompany has used the right-footed striker, who is versatile, all over the front line. He has played three positions as a center-forward, nine on the right wing, twelve on the left wing, and one as a central offensive midfielder behind the striker.

Comparator indicates that Bruun Larsen has the highest shots-on-target percentage (63%), ahead of Jeffrey Schlupp (56%), of Crystal Palace, and Phil Foden (58%) of Manchester City among all Premier League players in his position. With an average of 1.13 shots on target every ninety minutes, he is also placed third, ahead of Liverpool’s Luis Diaz (1) but behind Foden (1.37) and Crystal Palace’s Ebereche Eze (1.19).

Though Schlupp (0.53) and West Ham United’s Lucas Paqueta (0.57) are ranked ahead of Dyche in defensive aerial duels won (0.47), Dyche will be delighted to see that the Dane is prepared to put in a shift as well. In terms of ball recoveries in his own half, he ranks seventh among Premier League peers (2.26), below only Paqueta (3.23), and higher than McNeil (2.11), who is ranked ninth. On the other hand, the Everton player is ranked seventh with 4.72 ball recoveries overall, while Bruun Larsen is ninth (4.43).

With concerns about Everton’s takeover and transfer budgets, player trade for Dyche and director of football Kevin Thelwell is still very much up in the air this summer. However, Bruun Larsen, who should be nearing his prime, appears to offer a respectable proposition as Jack Harrison and Arnaut Danjuma’s loan stints come to an end, and he is proven Premier League quality at a potentially fair price.
