Ange Postecoglou sends lovely message to Celtic on title win

Ange Postecoglou has sent a lovely message to Celtic as Brendan Rodgers’ side clinched the league title…

At one point this season, Celtic finishing trophyless felt like a very real possibility and there were serious question marks over Brendan Rodgers’ future at the club, barely months into his comeback. But the Hoops managed to turn the ship around and have claimed the league title with a game to go. They are also in the Scottish Cup final, where they will be taking on the Rangers, who must be frustrated at letting the Premiership slip through their fingers in the last stages of the campaign.

One manager who is sure to conclude this season without a trophy is Ange Postecoglou. That has been a rare occurrence during the duration of his career.

Postecoglou has impressed in his debut season at Tottenham Hotspur. But getting silverware to the London club was never going to be an easy feat. Even a fifth-place finish in the Premier League would have to be considered as a success though and a solid basis to build upon moving forward.

Postecoglou sounded happy with Celtic’s league success. As reported by The Scotsman, when asked for his reaction to the Hoops’ title success, the Australian said:

“I love them, mate. Yeah, brilliant.

“Great people, great manager, great staff, great footballers. It’s an unbelievable club. I watched the game and I know, because I’ve experienced it, how that would have felt at the final whistle, then going back to Celtic Park late at night. It’s a pretty special place.”

Of course, Postecoglou got his fair share of success during his stay at Celtic. He won the league in both his seasons with the club.

The first of those was maybe even more spectacular as it was something not many had expected. Celtic had ended trophyless and 25 points behind the Rangers the season before, and Postecoglou’s debut campaign was considered as a transitional one.

The Australian did wonderfully well to rebuild the team under trying circumstances and lead them to league success in the same campaign. In the process, he became one of the most popular managers in Celtic history.
