Sunderland transfer latest with three attackers on Black Cats radar ahead of summer

Sunderland are pushing ahead with their summer transfer plans, despite not having a manager in place.

Sunderland is now searching for a new manager. However, the team is proceeding with its transfer preparations anyhow, and a number of names are currently being connected to a summer transfer to the Stadium of Light.

Naturally, names are also being linked to transfers away from Wearside. Here, we have compiled the most recent Sunderland transfer rumors.

Sunderland leading race for Divin Mubama

Divin Mubama of West Ham, who has an expiring contract in the summer, is one player that Sunderland has been connected to for a while.

When Mubama was available in January, the Black Cats were unable to sign him. However, reports at the beginning of May stated that Sunderland is now the front-runners to sign the 19-year-old this summer as a free agent.

Norwich City join race for Chris Willock

Sunderland have been linked with a summer move for Chris Willock, who sees his contract at QPR expire this summer.

But Norwich City have now joined the race to sign the former Arsenal man and could make their move regardless of whether or not they earn promotion this season.

Jack Clarke future at Sunderland unclear

Premier League teams are still interested in signing Jack Clarke; rumors from earlier in May indicated that Bournemouth and West Ham were currently in the lead.

However, transfer guru Graeme Bailey exclusively told Sunderland AFC News that Burnley is still very much in the running to recruit Clarke this summer, with Sheffield United perhaps emerging as a dark horse.”I still think Burnley is my favorite from what I’ve heard, though I haven’t heard too much recently,” Bailey stated.“I think he’s more likely to go to Burnley or Sheffield United personally, but we’ll see how that transpires in the coming weeks.”

Trai Hume tipped for potential Sunderland exit

Another exclusive from Bailey states that Sunderland is expected to get a lot of interest in the outstanding Trai Hume.

The defender had another successful season at Sunderland; earlier in the season, he was connected to a number of teams, including Aston Villa and Napoli.

Bailey stated to Sunderland AFC News, “I believe Hume will be lost at right-back as well.”

“Well, they wanted to offload the young player you acquired from PSG [Pembele], but I believe one of the right-backs will be traded.”

“The PSG kid was originally signed to replace Hume, but he hasn’t had much of a chance to play, has he?”

Sunderland join race to sign Ian Poveda

Finally, Sunderland’s transfer watch list now includes Ian Poveda, a Colombian winger for Leeds United.

The crafty 24-year-old just ended a successful loan stint with Sheffield Wednesday, where he contributed just one assist in ten games, but he managed to win over fans’ hearts in spite of his lack of goal contributions.

Leeds is expected to release Poveda this summer, and according to rumors from Spain, Sunderland is hoping to sign him but will have competition from Burnley, Luton Town, and Wednesday.
