Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis launches into fresh tirade over referees

Nottingham Forest believe officiating errors have lost them a number of points this season, and the club’s owner, Evangelos Marinakis, has expressed his dissatisfaction in a new interview.

Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has slammed Premier League referees, claiming that a series of errors have “cost” his team precious points this season.

Forest have had a series of dubious decisions against them, and they are still fighting for relegation. With only three points between them and the relegation zone, they face Chelsea and Burnley in their final two fixtures.

Last month, Forest’s displeasure with officials erupted after they were refused three penalties in a 2-0 loss to Everton. After the match, they posted a scathing statement on social media, saying: “Three extremely poor decisions – three penalties not given, which we simply cannot accept.”

“We informed the PGMOL before the game that the VAR is a Luton fan, but they did not change him. Our patience has been challenged several times. “NFFC will now consider its options.”

Marinakis has now doubled down on his comments. “It is stressful because of what has been happening since the beginning of the year with some decisions and points deduction,” he stated to BBC Sport. “What has transpired so far is unfair.

“Referee decisions have cost us points and this is something that has been repeated and repeated and what we expect for the Premier League and referees is to correct these mistakes.”

When asked whether he believed there was a vengeance against Forest or whether there had just been a build-up of errors, Marinakis replied, “It’s a combination. I hope it’s a mistake, but it’s a recurrent mistake, which bothers me.

“If it is a vendetta, it should not have been a vendetta because you must be fair, even if you dislike someone. It’s a shame because we have a strong desire for the club, and I never lose up.

“It was incredibly disheartening to watch three consecutive mistakes from the same player [Everton’s Ashley Young]. We also informed the Premier League chairman that…all referees have a preference for the side they favour. Unfortunately, nothing happened, and they made no changes, so we saw what we saw.
