Everton continue strong run with win over Sheffield United

Everton defeated Sheffield United 1-0 at Goodison Park in the Premier League on Saturday, with Abdoulaye Doucoure scoring the only goal.

Sean Dyche’s team has won four of their previous five league matches, remaining unbeaten. They currently sit 15th in the table with 40 points.

Doucoure headed the winner in the 31st minute, resulting in Sheffield United’s 27th loss of the season, and they have now allowed 101 times in the Premier League.

Everton have won their past five league games at Goodison Park, keeping clean sheets in all of them, and the Merseyside club will now look to cap the season with a win over Arsenal next weekend.

Sheffield United, however, will conclude a challenging season at home against Tottenham Hotspur.

Everton’s excellent run of form continues

Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin set up Doucoure for an early goal, but he was denied by Sheffield United custodian Wes Foderingham.

The Toffees were the team on the front foot, but Sheffield United had their chances, with Cameron Archer looping the ball past the post from a wide angle.

Everton took the lead in the 31st minute when Doucoure headed a cross from Calvert-Lewin into the net from close range.

VAR reviewed an incident between Jack Robinson and Calvert-Lewin late in the first period, where the Sheffield United defender pushed the Everton striker to the ground. However, the initial verdict of a yellow card stayed, and the Blades kept all 11 men on the pitch.

Everton keep another clean sheet

Everton keeper Jordan Pickford saved a powerful effort from Andre Brooks late in the first half. The Toffees had five chances on target in the first 45 minutes and led with Doucoure’s header.

In the 57th minute, on-loan Blades forward Ben Brereton Diaz had a strong shot but missed the target. Ten minutes later, he headed barely over the crossbar.

Sheffield United’s Archer nearly equalised late in the game, but Everton maintained their clean sheet.

Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite was brilliant in the midst of the defence. It will be interesting to see what happens with the Englishman during the summer transfer window.

Everton may lose key players due to off-field troubles, including Amadou Onana and Calvert-Lewin.
