Sunderland leads race ahead of Luton Town and Sheffield Wednesday to sign Leeds United man

Sunderland, Luton Town, and Burnley are reportedly competing with Sheffield Wednesday to acquire Leeds United winger Ian Poveda.

The dangerous wideman is out of contract with Leeds this summer and does not seem to have a future at Elland Road. He finished the 2023/24 season on loan at Wednesday and instantly became a favourite among Hillsborough fans.

Wednesday are apparently looking to make his move permanent this summer, but they are not the only team interested in the 24-year-old. AS reports that Sunderland, Luton, and Burnley have all expressed interest in the Colombia international.

Poveda joined Leeds from Manchester City in January 2020 and played a minor role in the Whites’ promotion to the Premier League. Despite being a member of Leeds’ squad for their first season back in the top flight, he was loaned out to Blackburn Rovers and Blackpool for the next two seasons.

He returned to Leeds under Daniel Farke but struggled to get playing time. After being limited to cameo appearances, he was given the opportunity to seek fresh pastures during the winter window.

It was first thought he would leave Leeds permanently, but when Wednesday concluded the deal, it was only temporary. Poveda appeared in ten games for S6 on loan and assisted once.
