Everton release major statement after Nottingham Forest failed with points deduction appeal

Latest Nottingham Forest news as the consequences from the Reds and Toffees’ FFP infractions continues amid point deductions.

Everton, Nottingham Forest’s Premier League rivals, have dropped their appeal against a two-point deduction for failing to comply with financial standards.

The Toffees’ decision follows the Reds’ unsuccessful appeal against their four-point deduction. On Tuesday, an independent commission issued a decision upholding Forest’s sentencing.

The Premier League table shows both clubs with asterisks next to their names. Everton, on the other hand, has already ensured its safety, whereas the Reds’ top-flight position is in doubt.

Exclusive: Finance expert explains why Everton and Nottingham Forest's points deductions cannot be compared

The Everton Football Club has withdrawn its appeal against the Premier League Independent Commission’s decision to impose a two-point deduction for a breach of Profitability and Sustainability Rules for the accounting period ending June 2023. A hearing set for later this month will not take place, and the club will finish the 2023/24 Premier League season with the two-point deduction in place.”

Everton successfully appealed a 10-point deduction this season, reducing it to six. Their two-point deduction was due to a second PSR violation.

Forest’s head coach, Nuno Espirito Santo, has criticised the lengthy process for resolving both issues. The Reds were charged in January, punished four points in March, had an appeal hearing in April, and only found out the results this week.

In response to the club’s lost appeal, Nuno stated in his pre-match press conference that the league’s legitimacy was affected by the issues surrounding point deductions, particularly the timing. Two games to go, and you’re wondering why the choice didn’t come sooner. Then you begin to wonder why this is the decision. It will have an impact on other clubs as well.

“I don’t want to bring up too many difficulties, but I believe there are still some things that need to be explained. At the end of the season, everyone must grasp what transpired. Why did the decision come so late? Why didn’t we win our appeal? All of these issues, I personally would like to know the answer to.”
