Chris Sutton says ‘unbelievable’ Celtic player ‘has to start’ vs Rangers after his recent form

The Glasgow Derby matchup between Celtic and Rangers will have the Celtic supporters nervous, excited, and confident.

Given how close the title race is, this is possibly the only game on the schedule that can elicit every feeling in a person at once. As such, Saturday’s match at Celtic Park is expected to be intense.

Brendan Rodgers will be pleased with where his team is at right now because Celtic’s play has been improving at the perfect time and all of our best players are now healthy.

Chris Sutton thinks that the supporters will have to “wait and see” what the Hoops coach decides, but it appears that the Celtic manager has a difficult choice to make about the starting lineup before Rangers come.

Concerns over James Forrest’s starting position

James Forrest has been playing exceptionally well for Celtic lately. With two goals against Dundee and an Aberdeen goal in the Scottish Cup semifinal, the Hoops winger was one of the first names on Hearts’ roster this past weekend.

And nobody was disappointed in Forrest. However, Sutton feels that even with his recent performance, the Celtic winger’s spot in the starting lineup against the Rangers is not assured.

“We’ll have a debate about who’s going to start, James Forrest or Nicolas Kuhn,” Sutton remarked [Record Celtic podcast].

“I don’t believe that’s quite that clear-cut because Brendan would interpret it that way—that is, that he enjoys Nicholas Kuhn getting inside, driving things from the inside, and creating issues in that regard.

“I believe that’s the one area where Daizen Maeda should be fit, and to what extent?

Although I agree with you that James Forrest ought to start given his recent performance, I believe we still need to wait and watch.

‘Unbelievable,’ in my opinion, Forrest has to start with Daizen Maeda on Saturday. Although Nicolas Kuhn has demonstrated promise, he hasn’t really done enough to maintain his lead over the two Celtic players.

Kuhn managed just one opportunity against the Hearts, as both of his crosses missed their mark.

He didn’t do much better at Dens Park either. Kuhn isn’t now at the same level as Forrest and Maeda, as evidenced by the lack of opportunities produced and the four crosses that all failed to reach any of his Celtic colleagues. [Fotmob]

If Celtic win on Saturday, the league is all but done, and both of these players give us a better chance of winning that game, thus James Forrest has to start and Maeda is an obvious choice.
