Rangers act of defiance suggests Philippe Clement is ‘lost the plot’ as Celtic legend names key turning point

Celtic great Frank McAvennie believes the next two weeks will decide whether Philippe Clement will be the first Rangers manager to win a Treble since Alex McLeish in 2003 – or the latest to be shown the door.

Since Gers returned to the Premiership in 2016 they’ve sacked Mark Warburton, Pedro Caixinha, Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Michael Beale. McAvennie feels the burden of the title chase has got to Clement ever since he celebrated the 3-3 draw against the champs at Ibrox last month – even if that result left Brendan Rodgers’ team at the top.

Ex-striker Macca said: “Him taking his players on a lap of honour after that draw was the first sign of him losing the plot. That was an afternoon where a win would have pushed them two points clear with a game in hand so I thought that was a curious response. Pressure is a tough thing to deal with and there seems to be something wrong with Rangers at the moment. Clement seemed sweet and peaceful when he got in but now he’s biting and snapping at everyone.”
