Blues Midfielder Aluko Has Retired

Blues Forward Aluko Retires

The club has announced that 35-year-old Town forward Sone Aluko has retired.

Aluko left Reading in the summer of 2021 and signed a free transfer with the Blues.

During his three seasons with the Blues, the Nigerian international made 33 starts and 29 substitute appearances, scoring four goals. However, in 2023–2024, he only made two starts and five bench appearances.

Aluko watched games with the analysts throughout the most of the season and gave manager Kieran McKenna insights. Aluko, who was born in Hounslow, is anticipated to remain with the Blues in some manner.

Aluko, who came through Birmingham’s development system, went on loans to Aberdeen and Blackpool before making one senior substitute appearance for the Midlanders and then permanently joining the Dons.

After a stint with the Rangers, he moved to Hull and then Fulham. After spending a stint on loan with Beijing Renhe in China, he joined Reading in August 2017.

The Nigerian international, who has been capped seven times, nearly signed with Derby County after a trial before moving to Town on a free transfer.
