Milan Player Ratings vs Genoa: Defensive Flaws Plague Rossoneri Again

Milan failed to return to winning ways in Serie A, with Genoa holding Stefano Pioli’s team to a thrilling 3-3 draw at San Siro. Rossoneri conceded early but recovered, only to lose the lead in the last minutes.

Fikayo Tomori’s bad reaction led Mateo Retegui to the penalty spot barely five minutes in, and the Italy international converted to put Genoa ahead 1-0. Alessandro Florenzi drew Milan level shortly before halftime, but Alberto GIladino’s team reclaimed the lead at the opening of the second half.

Milan responded following Genoa’s defensive block in the 72nd minute with Matteo Gabbia. Only three minutes later, Olivier Giroud completed the reversal, giving the hosts hope of breaking their three-game league winless streak. However, Malick Thiaw, the second-half substitution, had other plans.

The German defender put the ball in his own net, inspiring Genoa to a well-deserved draw and putting additional pressure on Pioli as we look at Milan ratings.

Milan (4-2-3-1)

Player Ratings: AC Milan 3-3 Genoa - Tomori disasterclass; veteran steps up

Marco Sportiello – 4

There wasn’t much he could’ve done for all three goals, but the fact is he conceded from each shot on target.

Alessandro Florenzi – 7.5

Even if his crosses were again erratic, he made amends with a remarkable header to tie the game on the stroke of halftime.

Matteo Gabbia – 5.5

Almost effortlessly lost the aerial fight with Ekuban for Genoa’s second goal, and there were other odd moments before and after halftime.

Fikayo Tomori – 5

Grew into the game as it continued, but a player of his experience and stature should have known better than to give away such a simple penalty.

Theo Hernandez – 6

In the first half, Milan’s wings were cut due to a lack of characteristic runs down the left flank. However, the great left-back returned to his normal form after the break, almost scoring a magnificent solo goal around the hour mark.

Ismael Bennacer – 6

Made numerous sloppy passes in the first half as he often sought a killer ball. Despite his attempt to drive his side forward, this wasn’t his day.

Tijjani Reijnders – 6.5

The Dutchman, like his colleague, struggled at first, but improved in the second half, demonstrating initiative and decisiveness on the ball.

Rafael Leao – 6.5

Completed a number of progressive runs on the left but couldn’t find the proper finish.

Christian Pulisic – 7

Returning to the No. 10 position, the USMNT attacker had a solid game, pulling all the strings in the front third and coming close to scoring in the opening half.

Samuel Chukwueze – 7

His woes with disallowed goals continued, but despite having his first-half strike overturned, the Nigerian refused to give up and earned an assist.

Olivier Giroud – 6.5

The veteran had two glorious chances to get on the board and converted one.

Substitutes

Noah Okafor – 6

Pierre Kalulu – 6

Yacine Adli – 5.5

Malick Thiaw – 3
