Nottingham Forest set for ‘hefty’ new punishment

Nuno Espirito Santo may face a touchline ban for comments made after the Nottingham Forest vs Everton game, according to Football Insider sources.

On the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior writer Pete O’Rourke reported that the Forest boss was “very angry” in his post-match press conference after his side’s three penalty appeals were rejected down.

Following the game, the club issued a controversial statement on Twitter, criticising the match officials for their role in the 2-0 defeat at Goodison Park on April 21.

Forest said they informed PGMOL before the match that VAR official Stuart Attwell was a Luton Town fan, but they chose not to change the appointment.

O’Rourke anticipates a “hefty fine” for the club, with Nuno and right-back Neco Williams also likely to face punishment for their comments after the final whistle.

Forest has been widely lambasted for publicly venting their grievances with the authority.

The club’s owner, Evangelos Marinakis, reportedly planned to release the statement before halftime after two penalty appeals were denied in the first half.

PGMOL chairman Howard Webb admitted Nuno’s team should have received a penalty for a foul by Ashley Young on Callum Hudson-Odoi in the second half.

However, the FA and Premier League have both indicated that they are investigating the situation, so that is unlikely to absolve Forest, Nuno, or Williams of any responsibility.

The club does not need any more sanctions after already being docked four points this season for violating the league’s spending regulations.

However, it is likely that the three parties at City Ground will face some form of punishment as a result of their reactions to the scandal.
