Aston Villa reduced their transfer budget this summer to qualify for European football, according to Football Insider sources.
Unai Emery’s squad is guaranteed to qualify for UEFA play next season, and they are in a strong position to finish in the top four and qualify for the Champions League.
The famous European competition will bring a significant financial boost to the club, particularly with the new Swiss-style format.
According to Football Insider, Villa could earn more than £30 million in prize money alone if they qualify for the Champions League.
However, participation in European competition requires Villa to follow Uefa’s independent financial laws.
Uefa’s cost control rules limit clubs to spending only 80% of their revenue on wages, transfers, and agent fees for the 2024-25 season.

According to their 2022-23 statements, Villa already spends 89 percent of their revenue on wages.
The spending cap will be reduced to 70% beginning with the 2025-26 season.
The Premier League has adopted similar financial limits beginning in 2025, capping expenditure at 85 percent of club revenue; however, clubs competing in Europe must still follow Uefa standards.
According to Football Insider, Villa’s expenditure has been limited due to rigorous Uefa regulations, resulting in a reduced transfer budget this summer.
It also explains why Villa resisted ideas for Premier League “anchoring” restrictions during a meeting earlier this week.
The Birmingham club voted against anchoring rules, along with Manchester United and Manchester City.
