The Odds Were Stacked Against Raiders Third-Round Pick DJ Glaze Early On

The Las Vegas Raiders selected offensive lineman DJ Glaze in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft on Saturday, making his dreams come true.

Glaze was one of the finest offensive tackles in the Big Ten last season, and now he has a legitimate chance to earn some key snaps on the Raiders’ offensive line next season.

Given his injury history, Glaze’s current status is very remarkable.

The odds were stacked against Glaze from the start of his football career, as the Charlotte, North Carolina native suffered two ACL tears in high school, both on the same knee.

“I started playing when I was four, so I was willing to do anything to get here,” Glaze stated after being picked. “This is just the beginning.” So, as the person I am, I was not going to let two ACL injuries prevent me from achieving my goals. It was a period of time away from football during which you had to work incredibly hard to ensure that it was fully recovered.

However, I was determined to achieve my goals regardless of the circumstances. I simply kept going, rehabbing it, becoming stronger, and that was just an impediment at the moment.”

As Glaze stated, he began playing football at an early age, giving the rookie plenty of time to consider the possibility of one day making it to the NFL.

“You get better and you find out the competition gets more and more each year,” Glaze went on to say. “When I arrived to Maryland, I realised this is something I am capable of. then you go to a great college, you think, “This is something I can achieve,” and then you start playing and getting good reps and dominating, it becomes more feasible year after year, leading up to this point.”

Glaze attended Maryland for four seasons and was chosen to the All-Big Ten Third Team last year.
