West Ham will not keep ‘Remarkable’ star at club, loan exit now on cards

According to Lions de L’Atlas, Marseille has expressed interest in signing Nayef Aguerd from West Ham United, with Medhi Benatia lobbying for the transfer.

According to reports, the Moroccan will not be kept by the Irons, despite his “remarkable” start at the London Stadium prior to injury difficulties.

His fellow countryman Benatia is Marseille’s current sporting director, and the club is reportedly looking for a new centre defender.

According to the French newspaper, the Ligue 1 club may sign Aguerd on loan in the summer with the option to buy him after a year.

Should West Ham United sell Nayef Aguerd?

Aguerd joined the Hammers in 2022 for a reported £30 million cost from Stade Rennes [BBC].

He had a successful debut season in East London, making more than 30 games as the club won the Europa Conference League.

Although David Moyes’ squad struggled at times in the Premier League, the eventual result was worth it.

After a fantastic World Cup campaign with Morocco, the centre-back’s status appeared to increase, but he has since struggled with injury.

West Ham

This season, despite the fact that the Hammers have played 35 games, he has made 21 Premier League starts and played less than 2000 minutes.

An ankle ailment is presently keeping him out, and he could miss the rest of the season.

While Konstantinos Mavropanos and Kurt Zouma work well together, Aguerd may not see immediate results.

A loan makes little sense from West Ham’s perspective, but a sell for around £30 million may benefit them.
