“Remarkable” – Simon Jordan issues glowing Ipswich Town claim live on talkSPORT

Ipswich Town are on the verge of promotion to the Premier League after a 2-1 victory over Coventry City on Tuesday night.

The Tractor Boys have had a fantastic first season back in the Championship after being promoted from League One, spending much of the season in and around the top two.

With a 2-1 victory over Coventry City at the CBS Arena on Tuesday night, Ipswich made a significant step toward promotion to the top flight.

The Tractor Boys had a strong start to the game, taking the lead in the eighth minute when Kieffer Moore fired home after being set up by Wes Burn.

Coventry surged into the game, tying in the 64th minute by Haji Wright, but Cameron Burgess restored the visitors’ lead five minutes later.

Despite 11 minutes of added time at the end of the game, Ipswich held on for an important victory, moving three points ahead of second-placed Leeds United, who now only need one more point to secure promotion.

Manager Kieran McKenna emphasizes that “the job is not done yet” as the Tractor Boys face Huddersfield Town, who are nearly relegated owing to their low goal difference, at Portman Road on Saturday.

Jordan: Ipswich is a club heading in the right direction.

Jordan backed Ipswich to win promotion against Huddersfield this weekend, and he praised McKenna and the owners as the club approaches the Premier League.

Jordan told talkSPORT that he doubts the Tractor Boys will make a mistake on Saturday.

“I mean, that assumes Leeds wins their game, because if Leeds loses, they don’t need any points.”

“Huddersfield are in the bottom three of the division for a reason; Ipswich are at home, and the hard work was done last night.

“I expected a draw at Coventry and a win over Huddersfield over the weekend; they’ve done the hard work by going to Coventry and winning, and I expect them to do more than enough to either gain the point they need or win the game.

“I believe it is a wonderful achievement, and I mean it.

“Not just because they’ve moved up a division, but as we’ve discussed on a number of shows, everything about Ipswich at the moment looks the part, from Kieffer Moore, who they signed to give them that extra boost throughout the season, to the way they manage their finances, the ownership model, and the manager.

“The whole culture of the club looks like a club that’s going in the right direction, and it clearly is, they’re going to the Premier League.”

Ipswich had a fantastic evening at Coventry on Tuesday night, and they are now within touching distance of promotion.

The Tractor Boys couldn’t have asked for a better opponent than a Huddersfield side that will be relegated regardless of the outcome on Saturday, but the Terriers have caused issues for some of the division’s big clubs this season and should not be underestimated.

McKenna will not allow his team to become comfortable, and with a sold-out Portman Road, it is difficult to imagine Ipswich failing to pick up at least one point to secure promotion.

As Jordan notes, the Tractor Boys have had a great season, and with McKenna at the helm and an ambitious ownership plan, their journey is far from over.
