Ex-Sunderland flop signs three-year deal under Stewart Donald at non-league club Eastleigh

The former Sunderland goalkeeper has been given a three-year deal.

Eastleigh manager Stewart Donald has signed Kelvin Davis, a former Sunderland goalkeeper, to a new three-year contract.

Donald, the former owner of Sunderland, sold his remaining shares to Kryil Louis-Dreyfus and Juan Sartori in May 2023.

The following month, Donald agreed to buy a majority position in non-league team Eastleigh, five years after selling it initially. Sunderland’s former owner is no longer associated with the Wearsiders.

Davis joined Eastleigh as manager in February after previously working as Southampton’s assistant manager. Davis joined Sunderland in June 2005 for £1.25 million and was a member of the club that was relegated from the Premier League.

During his stint, the 47-year-old recorded 20 points in 13 games, including five clean sheets, and has now been given a new deal.

“We are delighted Kelvin and Danny have agreed to join us,” Donald remarked after the transaction was revealed. “Clearly, we have had a period working together and it is clear that there is a huge desire from both Kelvin and Danny to bring success to Eastleigh.”

“It marks the start of a new era for the club, and we view this as a long-term appointment. Kelvin has a strong vision for how to advance the football club and achieve long-term success.

“I am excited for the club’s future, and supporters will play a significant role.” It is critical that we work as a team on this new initiative! Securing Kelvin and Danny for an initial three-year contract demonstrates our belief in them and their capacity to deliver for Eastleigh FC.

Davis expressed excitement for the next project at Eastleigh FC after signing the new agreement. Myself and Danny [Butterfield] had noticed the potential when we joined the club.

“Every time I visit the club, I see progress. It’s fantastic that we can be a part of the football club’s future and perhaps create something that will grow in the next years.”
