Jamie Carragher berates Nottingham Forest over ’embarrassing’ response to Everton calls

The former Liverpool defender and Sky Sports pundit responded after Nottingham Forest issued a sharp statement about the officiating in their 2-0 loss to relegation rivals Everton.

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has labelled Nottingham Forest’s harsh statement on refereeing decisions in their crucial match against Everton as “embarrassing”.

The former Liverpool and England defender described the club’s reaction to the 2-0 defeat to the Toffees on X (previously Twitter) as that of “a fan in a pub”. Carragher acknowledged that the officials made “horrific” decisions.

All three strong penalty claims involved veteran fullback Ashley Young. He looked to kick Gio Reyna in the ankle in the first half, and then blocked a cross with his arm on the half-time whistle. During the second half, he appeared to bundle over Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Nottingham Forest 'face' FA investigation for VAR allegation after Everton blow

Forest responded furiously to the choices, claiming they alerted referees organisation PGMOL that VAR Stuart Attwell supports relegation rivals Luton Town ahead of the match. They have now stated that they will “consider their options”.

Carragher, however, disagreed with Forest’s stance. On Sky, he stated, “This shows where we stand in the Premier League right now.” Stuart Attwell and (referee) Anthony Taylor had a terrible day today, and they should be held accountable for it. And their judgements could have serious consequences for Nottingham Forest.

“I understand the frustration, but what I’ve just seen on social media is like a fan in a pub. That is embarrassing for Nottingham Forest.

“I understand your displeasure, but that bullshit about the VAR being a Luton fan. You cannot get involved in that. If you’re a football club, you need to display some class.

“I understand the frustration. The officials have had a terrible day. Terrible. But you cannot get involved in that. That is ridiculous.

The result puts Forest one point ahead of 18th-placed Luton with four games remaining. They will face Manchester City and Chelsea at the City Ground, as well as Sheffield United and Burnley on the road.
