How San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs players ranked as recruits will determine who wins the Super Bowl in 2024.

Super Bowl 2024: How Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers players ranked as recruits

a detailed look at the rosters of the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers, as well as a look at how each starter in the 2024 Super Bowl ranked as a high school recruit.

Which players from Super Bowl LVIII were the best recruits? Before the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers take on each other in Las Vegas on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. ET on CBS and Paramount+, this is one of the most talked-about questions. Unsurprisingly, recruiting rankings matter — even in the Super Bowl. Thirty-two percent of the players who are on the active rosters for the Chiefs and 49ers were former four- or five-star recruits in the 247Sports rankings. While that may not seem like a big number, keep in mind that only one in every twelve FBS signees (assuming 2,500 per cycle) ranked as a four-star recruit out of high school. That is an 8 percent chance. However, 32 percent of Super Bowl players were previously blue-chip prospects. The numbers get even better when you take into account five-star prospects, of which there are only 32 per recruiting cycle, or 1.25% of all FBS signees. However, six percent of Super Bowl players are former five-star prospects, meaning that five-star players are more than six times the likelihood of playing in this game than any other type of recruit.

Former five-star players include All-Pro defensive tackle Chris Jones of the Chiefs and All-Pro defensive end Nick Bosa of the 49ers. This game features a lot of recruiting firepower in the defensive lines because, between the two teams, five of the eight defensive line starters were once five-star prospects. Both of the starting quarterbacks for the Chiefs and 49ers, Brock Purdy and Patrick Mahomes, were three-star recruits with an aggregate rating of 87.

Regarding the star tight ends, George Kittle (49ers) and Travis Kelce (Chiefs) were two-star picks. Both players do have some minor limitations, though. Kittle was originally considered a wide receiver, but Kelce came to Cincinnati as a quarterback who had undergone conversion.

This is the overall comparison of the two rosters’ recruiting stars.
