The goalie for Standard Liege has received his first call-up to the Belgium national team.
Arnaud Bodart, the custodian for Standard Liege, is reportedly being watched by Rangers in anticipation of a potential summer transfer raid.
The 26-year-old, who is about to enter the last year of his deal with the Belgian powerhouses, has been a constant between the posts since the 2019–20 campaign. He is expected to depart for a new challenge at the conclusion of the season, though, as Liege is said to be amenable to a sale in the event that the two sides are unable to come to an agreement.
Following Philippe Clement’s appointment as manager and Nils Koppen’s appointment as head of recruiting, the two have completely redesigned the Ibrox club’s scouting structure. Anthony Galinski, who was formerly lead international scout Andreas Fehse, is the most recent addition to the team.
In their search for fresh players, the Light Blues have turned to the Belgian Jupiler Pro League market, according to outlet Sudinfo, with Bodart reportedly firmly on the Gers’ radar.
If Liege is unable to persuade Bogart to stay, they are reportedly seeking a sum of money close to €4 million (£3.4 million) for the custodian, who just received his first senior call-up to the Belgium national team.
Rangers has not yet made a formal offer, but it is expected that one will be made soon given concerns that first-choice player Jack Butland, who is under contract with the team until 2027, would be enticed to leave for a return to the Premier League this summer following an incredibly successful season in Govan.
Butland’s exceptional performance has put him back in the running to be included in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2024, and when the transfer window reopens in June, there probably won’t be a shortage of suitors from south of the border for him.
Bodart, who has played his whole professional career at Standard Liege, could provide fierce competition for the No. 1 place, especially with third pick Jon McLaughlin and current understudy Robby McCrorie still available. Bodart has made over 150 appearances for the club.
Although Bodart is hardly a household name, he was notably at the core of one of Rangers’ most iconic goals in recent memory when the team played Standard Liege in the Europa League group stage of the 2020–21 season. Kemar Roofe’s incredible goal from inside his own half, when the forward looped the ball over the custodian and into the net, will always be remembered fondly from the match.
Prior to this summer, he was linked to a move to Celtic, a rival team that asked whether he was available to start as Joe Hart’s backup. In the January transfer window, Strasbourg, a French team, also showed interest in him.
