Kyril Louis-Dreyfus has called for Sunderland to be sold following their ’embarrassing’ defeat to Blackburn Rovers.
After a dismal season, Steve Davison was the first to be fired, and supporters have also demanded Kristjaan Speakman’s dismissal.
Sunderland’s owner must ‘admit defeat’
William Storey, founder of Rich Energy and former bidder for Sunderland, says Louis-Dreyfus and Sartori should be removed.
Storey sought to acquire the club in 2020, but returned with a syndicate willing to pay Louis-Dreyfus £42 million two years later.
The British billionaire has since attempted to acquire Reading and Coventry City, but his claims have been repeatedly refuted by supporters and the media.
He has frequently gone to X to express his displeasure about Sunderland, and he was eager to condemn its owners yesterday.
He wrote: “I was in Africa on business when I watched the Sunderland outcome. Ironically, in Blackburn, the Venkys are seen as lousy owners who do not understand football. Sunderland’s board of directors must move quickly and either invest or confess defeat and sell. Embarrassing.”
Is William Storey spouting nonsense?
William Storey should be disregarded at all costs, yet many supporters feel that Kyril Louis-Dreyfus should sell the club – something I strongly disagree with.
The Swiss-French owner may not be the wealthiest in the world, but he has demonstrated that we can do what we do without a lot of money.
If Sunderland had won the play-offs last season, there would have been few complaints since we would have accomplished back-to-back promotions with a very young side, but we arguably failed owing to a slew of injuries.
Kristjaan Speakman is to blame for this season’s shortcomings, and if he had brought in a suitable successor for Tony Mowbray in December, we could have been able to compete for a spot in the top flight again.
Louis-Dreyfus may have made mistakes, but I don’t consider him a poor owner, and I don’t believe we would be better off without him.
If he can see the light and get rid of Speakman, we may be on the right track. However, it would be wonderful if Sartori opted to pull his finger out and prove his worth to the club.
