Jobe Bellingham thinks it doesn’t matter what position he plays in as long as he wears a Sunderland shirt.

Bellingham made a fantastic performance at Cardiff City when Mike Dodds put him back into the centre forward position, gaining an early penalty and then scored his team’s second goal to snap their seven-game losing streak.

The 18-year-old has primarily played in midfield this season, but has also excelled in a more advanced area, and confesses he has no clue where he will finish up playing football. Goals are a huge priority for the kid in either case, and his finishing practice has paid handsomely in South Wales.

“I think it’s thrilling in a way since I’ll find out as the years go. It is up to the coaches to choose where my skills best match the squad, and I am not concerned with where I play as long as I am in red and white. I don’t mind playing anywhere on the squad.

“I told Doddsy at the beginning of the season that I wanted to score ten goals. I practice finishing every day; obviously, it doesn’t always work out, which may be frustrating, but that’s what it’s all about: trying to develop and better.”

Bellingham felt Sunderland were back to their best in their win over Cardiff and that they must maintain their momentum when Blackburn Rovers visit the Stadium of Light on Monday afternoon.

The 18-year-old paid thanks to the club’s fans and stated that he enjoys playing in front of them.

“I believe we demonstrated great tenacity and humility,” Bellingham added.

“There were some terrific performances all around; we just need to maintain that level of energy. That is Sunderland, I believe, an aggressive, passionate young squad that gets in your face, tries to turn you around, and sends you rushing towards your own goal, which we did.

“It feels like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders because we performed exceptionally well and won.” We need to create a snowball effect. When you lose, it’s the worse feeling because you feel accountable for everyone watching. They traveled so far today; it’s incredible what they do. I’d say it’s the finest support in the country, at least away from home; it’s a pleasure to play in front of them, and you simply want to thank them. That includes not only scoring, but also battling and tackling.
