Michael Beale explains exactly what Sunderland is missing right now.

Former Sunderland manager Michael Beale has informed the club what they now lack.

Sunderland fired Beale last month, bringing a sudden end to his 12-game career, which was fraught with scandal and instability.

From the Trai Hume-handshake scandal to Beale’s claim that Sunderland supporters disliked him because he was from the south, this was a notable stint for negative reasons.

Mike Dodds was put in charge until the summer.

In his third stint as interim manager of Sunderland, the 37-year-old secured his first win with a 2-0 victory over Cardiff City on Good Friday.

Adil Aouchiche and Joe Bellingham scored in the first half to earn the victory, breaking a streak of seven games without a goal, two of which came under Beale.

The former QPR and Rangers manager was immensely disliked.

Replacing Tony Mowbray, who was well-liked at the Stadium of Light, would be a challenging task for whoever took over. Mowbray’s role at the club may now be underappreciated.

In 12 games, Beale won four, drew two, and lost six, ending his stint with back-to-back defeats against Huddersfield Town and Mowbray’s Birmingham City.

Beale has been rather silent since leaving Sunderland.

But on Friday, he appeared on Sky Sports, where he was questioned about his previous team.

Michael Beale speaks out on Sunderland’s departure and current squad.

Of course, Beale was questioned about his time and departure from Wearside, which he promptly dismissed.

Beale noted the challenge of replacing Mowbray, but his most fascinating remarks were on the existing squad.

Prior to the match against Cardiff City, Beale stated on Sky Sports that the Sunderland first-team lacks certain qualities.

“The great thing about the Sunderland group right now is that it’s really talented and technical, but it needs a little more experience inside the team to go over the line.

“Even in the games since I’ve left and Mike Dodds has taken the team, the results have not probably been what they’ve deserved from the performances, and it’s a little bit of nouse and experience that could probably help the group.”

Many Sunderland supporters and analysts would agree with Beale’s assessment.

Even with Corry Evans and Bradley Dack returning, the team still lacks experience, not only in the Championship, but in general.

Luis Hemir, for example, had played little senior football before joining the club, as did Mason Burstow.

And as injuries and defeats mounted, Sunderland’s lack of experience became increasingly apparent.

Sunderland was severely missing leaders during their losing streak, and they still are to some extent, but the win over Cardiff comes as a welcome morale boost.

Kristjaan Speakman, sports director, and Kyril Louis-Dreyfus, owner, will make necessary changes to the playing roster this summer.

As Beale implies, experience is required.

Speakman and co. just cannot add young players to the side without providing some seasoned veterans to assist balance the team.

It will undoubtedly be a fascinating summer, with the added challenge of finding a manager.
