Bruno Guimaraes Premier League ban update for Newcastle United as deadline approaches

At St James’ Park, Bruno Guimaraes will have to escape receiving a yellow card once more when Newcastle United takes on West Ham United.

For Bruno Guimaraes to lessen his likelihood of receiving a Premier League suspension, he must go eight games without receiving a booking.

On Saturday afternoon at St James’ Park, the Brazilian will take on West Ham United and his international teammate Lucas Paqueta (12:30pm kick-off). However, with Sandro Tonali and Joelinton already out, Newcastle will be eager to prevent any further midfield casualties following the injury to Lewis Miley.

This season in the Premier League, Guimaraes has already received nine yellow cards; a tenth would result in a two-match suspension. The 26-year-old will miss the next games against Everton and Fulham if he receives a booking against West Ham.

But since receiving his ninth yellow card in a 3-2 loss to Manchester City in January, the Brazilian has avoided a booking in each of Newcastle’s previous seven league games. Although Guimaraes has remained disciplined in the past several weeks despite facing a ban, he still needs to stay out of trouble by not receiving a booking in each of Newcastle’s next four league games.

Anthony Gordon, a winger for Newcastle, might potentially face a suspension after receiving eight yellow cards so far this year. To get a two-game suspension, the 23-year-old must receive two bookings in United’s next four games.

Earlier in the season, Guimaraes and Gordon received one-match suspensions after receiving five yellow cards in Newcastle’s first 19 Premier League games. Kieran Trippier received a similar suspension.

After 28 Premier League games for Newcastle, the suspension threshold was raised to 10 yellow cards with a 32-match deadline. Therefore, any player who receives 10 yellow cards before and during their team’s 32nd Premier League game will miss two games.

So far this season, no player has received more than five bookings; Guimares and Gordon are the only ones who could face a yellow card ban.

To avoid punishment, the two must stay away from one and two bookings, respectively, until after Newcastle’s game against Tottenham Hotspur on April 13 (12:30pm kickoff).
