Tottenham lead race to sign Morgan Gibbs-White this summer

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly leading the race to sign Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White this summer, as per Football Insider.

The 24-year-old, who joined the Reds from Wolverhampton Wanderers before the previous campaign, was instrumental in his team’s ability to avoid relegation.

This season, in 28 league games, the midfield player has continued to play at his peak at the City Ground, tallying three goals and five assists.

Tottenham has reportedly been keeping an eye on the Englishman’s progress in recent years and has been very pleased with his performances, according to the Football Insider source.

According to the source, Spurs may try to sign Gibbs-White this summer because they believe he has the skills needed to fit into Ange Postecoglou’s system.Gibbs-White to Tottenham

It’s unclear if Tottenham will be able to sign him before the upcoming campaign, although Football Insider also claims that they are presently in “pole position” to sign him.

According to the source, Nottingham Forest may have to cash in on some of its stars this summer in order to balance the books after being found guilty of breaking the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations. Gibbs-White might therefore be sold by Forest in the off-season, which would make it possible for Spurs to sign him.

With more than three years remaining on his current deal, Gibbs-White—valued by Transfer market at approximately £34 million—may command a high price from Forest to move their top player, should they choose to compete in the Premier League the next year.

However, they are currently languishing down in the relegation zone following the points deduction having been found guilty of breaching the FFP rules, so if they fail to keep their top-flight status then they would be forced to cash-in on him in a cut-price deal.

Gibbs-White is a talented player and has been showcasing signs that he could become a top-class midfielder in future. So, he would be a great coup for Tottenham if they purchase him.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Lilywhites eventually manage to acquire his service in the upcoming transfer window.
