A promising custodian who was let go by Pompey has joined Aston Villa.
Jack Allan, a former Blues under-16 player, was devastated to learn at Christmas that he would not be granted scholarship terms at the conclusion of the campaign.
Rather, Pompey’s Academy chose Oscar Glover, a rival custodian, to advance to the under-18 division the following year.
Allan sought to further his football career abroad as a result, and after three weeks of being on trial at Villa, the Premier League team signed him.
The teenage player inked a three-year deal last week, which consists of two scholarship years and one year of professional play.
To begin his new adventure, he then teamed up with Villa’s under-17 team for a competition in Egypt.
Toby Steward, a highly promising young custodian for Pompey, has led the team in recent years.
The 19-year-old was promoted from the youth team and has been a member of the first team for a considerable amount of time even if he hasn’t made his debut.
But having not been granted terms, second-year scholars Malachi Osei-Owusu and Bastian Smith will both go at the conclusion of the season after graduating from the Academy.
Oscar Glover, who was chosen to become a scholar in July rather than Allan, is another player whom the Blues had great expectations for.
In November, the custodian made his Hampshire Senior Cup debut in a team of first- and second-year scholars against Folland Sports.
But after a 1-1 draw sent the game into a penalty shootout, Smith, a player a year his senior, took his spot for the Wessex League Division One team’s penalties.
Sam Hudson’s team was eliminated after losing 5-4 on penalty kicks.
