Nonsense’ – Pundit blasts pile on of ‘Excellent’ Everton man despite ‘Stinker’

Everton: Ally McCoist and Andy Townsend slam Nathan Patterson after ‘poor’ Scotland incident.

Ally McCoist and Andy Townsend have lambasted Everton defender Nathan Patterson on TalkSPORT.

It comes after the right-back conceded the game’s only goal as Scotland lost 1-0 to Northern Ireland.

Patterson lost possession inside his own box before Conor Bradley scored at Hampden Park on Tuesday (26 March).

“When I say it was a poor goal to lose, it was a brilliant finish from Conor Bradley,” McCoist stated on talkSPORT. “I think Nathan Patterson tries to flick one around the corner into an area he probably shouldn’t.”

Townsend remarked, “In his own box,” to which McCoist said, “Yeah, intercepted and brilliantly finished.”

Nathan Patterson of Everton had a poor night at Hampden Park.

Scotland were well prepared for the international match against Northern Ireland, having suffered a dismal 4-0 defeat to the Netherlands in Amsterdam on Friday (22 March).

Manager Steve Clarke chose to play Toffees right-back Patterson at Hampden, after the defender began against the Netherlands.

However, much to his manager’s displeasure, the full-back got himself into serious trouble just after the half-hour mark.

Northern Ireland players swiftly encircled him, with Liverpool’s Bradley picking up the ball and blasting into the top corner.

That was the last of the scoring at the national stadium, and Clarke now needs to restore momentum ahead of Euro 2024.

Patterson will return to Goodison Park to support Sean Dyche’s Premier League survival efforts.
