Sunderland Star’s Agent Casts Doubt On New Contract For Client

Ian Harte, the winger’s agent, thinks Sunderland’s salary structure may prevent them from securing a new deal for Jack Clarke.

Clarke’s contract is set to expire in the summer of 2026. He has been an essential member of the Sunderland team this season.

The winger was coveted by Lazio in January and has been connected to several moves away from the Black Cats.

Clarke was retained by Sunderland, but an injury to his ankle ligament has kept him out of action.

The competition to sign Clarke is anticipated to intensify as the summer window approaches.

To ward off suitors, there has been discussion about Sunderland extending Clarke’s current stay at the Stadium of Light.

Harte, the player’s agent, is adamant that Sunderland has not reexamined the initial contract offer his client got last summer and questions whether Sunderland will return given their wage structure.

The BBC cited Harte as stating, “Not many people know this but in Jack’s contract, he had to play a few games at the start of this season to then get offered a new deal.”

“A bargain was presented, but it wasn’t satisfactory.

“We were pleased to sign a contract, but it was done earlier in the summer and hasn’t been discussed since.

“They’ve got a wage structure.”

Many clubs possess that.

“I can’t see it happening, no, because I don’t think [Sunderland] want to break any structure for any football player.”

With 33 Championship games so far this season, Clarke has contributed 19 goals, and the club has primarily relied on him because their forwards have been misfiring.
