Cowboys could be realistic landing spot for big-name free agent

In free agency, the Dallas Cowboys may choose to sign a well-known tackle.

The main reason the Dallas Cowboys haven’t done anything in NFL Free Agency thus far is that they are unable to. The Cowboys have little leeway to manoeuvre because of the salary cap, but as the offseason goes on, they may be able to.

With the departure of previous first-round choice Tyron Smith, a franchise mainstay after being selected again in the 2010 NFL Draft, the Cowboys now have a clear need at left tackle. Smith ran off to join the New York Jets, where he will now cover Aaron Rodgers’ blind side.

What then will the Cowboys do with their left tackle position? There are still a lot of possibilities available at this time. The Cowboys have the 2024 NFL Draft in front of them, but they also have the option to wait until the offseason to let free agency to approach them. Former Green Bay Packers All-Pro David Bakhtiari, who was released earlier this summer to free up $20 million in salary contract space for the team, is one high-profile signing they might consider making.

Despite not playing much in the previous few years, Bakhtiari plans to continue playing in the 2024 season.

For the Cowboys, a player such as Bakhtiari might prove to be a tremendous value. It wouldn’t be a bad deal for the team to have him on board, and the timing might be ideal for all parties. The Cowboys’ ability in the 2024 NFL Draft may determine if they require a stopgap. The Cowboys could not be selecting high enough to acquire the necessary Day 1 starter, despite the fact that the tackle position is loaded in this class.

The Cowboys might present Bakhtiari with the best opportunity to earn playing time if he wishes to stay in the game, and their budgetary position means they must choose a less expensive option. And maybe he may be of assistance there.

There is a clear and noteworthy relationship between Bakhtiari and Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy. Once upon a time, McCarthy was the head coach of Bakhtiari in Green Bay. Prior to this offseason, it was believed that Bakhtiari may use his relationship with Aaron Rodgers to gain employment with the Jets; however, it is clear that the Jets have taken a different approach.

Maybe Bakhtiari’s connections in Dallas may come into play when he enters the 2024 NFL Free Agency.
