‘I’ll be honest’: Pundit says he can’t understand why £42m player signed for West Ham

West Ham United have made some fantastic signings in recent years.

Artists such as Larry Paqueta, Muhammad Kudus, and Jarrod Bowen have all achieved certification as hits.

However, some bad signings for the team have also been identified, including Gianluca Scamacca, Nikola Vlasic, and even Sebastian Haller.

It would be an understatement to say that Kalvin Phillips, who the Hammers bought on loan from Manchester City during the January transfer window, is having a difficult time during his time in east London.

In fact, Phillips hasn’t played regularly since leaving City, and he hasn’t even been well-paid since joining the Hammers.

In an interview with Scott Minto for the Premier League All Access Podcast, he talked about Phillips’ transfer to the London Stadium and said he had no idea why the player went to West Ham.

Kalvin Phillips’ move to West Ham is baffling

Minto discussed the £42 million player and his summer transfer.

“To be honest, I didn’t understand the West Ham decision in the first place when it came to Kalvin Phillips. The number of talented holding midfielders they possess, including Edson Alvarez and Ward Prowse. It hasn’t really worked, Minto admitted, but I am aware that David Moyes admired him a few years ago and tried to pay £50 million when he was at Leeds to get him and Rice to play together.

Not working

Isn’t it simple to say this in retrospect?

For Phillips at the time, a transfer to West Ham seemed perfect. Ultimately, the Hammers required a substitute for Declan Rice, and David Moyes had an affinity for the player.

But for the former Leeds player, things haven’t quite gone as planned, and for now, this move does seem confusing because Philips isn’t getting a game ahead of the Hammers’ current midfield alternatives.

In order to restart his profession, Phillips might have to relocate in the summer.
