Tottenham transfer news: Major update on Timo Werner completing permanent move – sources

According to sources who spoke to Football Insider, Tottenham has not yet decided whether to permanently sign forward Timo Werner, who is currently on loan.

The 28-year-old and Spurs agreed on a loan in January that would run until the end of the 2023–24 campaign.

Werner’s full-time contract with the London team is reportedly negotiable for a sum estimated at £15 million, which would go towards paying parent club RB Leipzig.

Football Insider has been informed by a senior source that club executives, who respect his versatility and expertise, saw the fee as a possible “bargain.”

Since joining Tottenham, Werner has made nine appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals and providing two assists.

The Germany international is reportedly a popular part of Ange Postecoglou’s team and has adapted well to life at the club.

Werner has led the line for Leipzig and Chelsea in the past, but he has only played as a left winger for Tottenham thus far.

After scoring 23 goals in 89 outings for the Blues, he left Stamford Bridge in 2022 to return to Leipzig.

With 102 goals in 257 games, the 28-year-old has a superior record in the German Bundesliga.

With 57 senior Germany caps under his belt, Werner has also scored 24 goals. His Leipzig contract expires in June 2026.

Tottenham lost 3-0 on the road against Fulham on Saturday (16 March), which left them in fifth place in the Premier League.

If England is awarded a fifth place in the competition for the 2024–25 season, the Lilywhites could be eligible to compete in the Champions League with their current standing.
