Sunderland has now dropped five straight Championship games after Foxes striker Jamie Vardy scored the game’s lone goal in the 13th minute. Here are a some of the moments that you might have overlooked:
Former Sunderland defender Callum Doyle made his way back to the Stadium of Light, where he played the entire game for the Foxes at left-back. The twenty-year-old defender might add another promotion to his resume, joining the one he received with Sunderland from League One while on loan from Manchester City. Due to a protracted knee injury, the defender has only made thirteen appearances in the Championship this season.
Reaction to stick by Jamie Vardy
Following his first-half goal, Jamie Vardy received criticism from Sunderland supporters who were yelling about the Wagatha Christie trial. When Vardy was eventually replaced in the 78th minute, he responded to the home crowd by raising his arms. After Jamie Vardy scored his 11th league goal of the season, the Leicester supporters retaliated by yelling, “Jamie Vardy, he scores more than you.”
A Leicester dispute at half-time
Leicester got out to a quick start, but when Sunderland got into the game, they were unable to extend their lead. As a result, Vardy, Hamza Choudhury, and Abdul Fatawu got into a fight at halftime, and it seemed like they were fighting as they were going down the tunnel.

To try and neutralize Leicester’s threats, Sunderland used a man-to-man marking system when the ball was out of possession. Black Cats captain Luke O’Nien emphasized this point again before halftime. As the players were leaving for the second half, O’Nien was captured on the club’s Access All Areas video saying, “stay man for man unless it’s blindingly obvious,” and Leo Hjelde was right behind him, appreciating the message.
