Why Rangers midfielder loved playing in worst conditions of career

NICOLAS Raskin tonight admitted the conditions that Rangers played Dumbarton in were the worst he had ever experienced in his career – but stressed he had relished being involved in the Scottish Cup victory.

Before being replaced by Ryan Jack halfway through the second half, Raskin made sure the Ibrox club forged into a two goal lead in the fourth round matchup against the League Two team at The Rock.

The Belgian acknowledged that he had found it challenging to handle the clash with the part-time outfit due to the severe winds and heavy rain on the pitch, which had cleared referee Alan Muir’s inspection at 1pm.

However, the 22-year-old, who returned from a two month injury lay off in the cinch Premiership meeting with Kilmarnock in Govan at the start of January, relished helping Rangers to progress to the fifth round.

He remarked, “I always like to play these kinds of games because it makes me think of watching my father play.”

“We play one or two of those types of games a year, but we have to show respect for our opponents who play those

kinds of games every week.

“There are more games like that throughout the world than there are in the major stadiums, so that is true

football. We had to give it our all on the pitch. As you can see, it’s challenging, but I believe we did well. Although

it can be a difficult pitch for the muscles, it was well-done.”

It was enjoyable to us. Winning is always a fun thing to do. It is always fun to win as a team. You can always love

those games because I played a tonne of them as a young lad. However, all in all, those were the worst playing

conditions I’ve ever encountered.

Since his countryman took over as manager of Genk and Club Brugge in October, Raskin has not played much

under Philippe Clement. However, he made it clear that he is eager to play a string of games under the former

Genk and Club Brugge coach in the coming weeks and months.

He declared, “I am looking for a lot.” “I got hurt after playing two and a half games. I had fun with them and got a

goal. I’m thrilled to be back and to be playing the attacking football that the boss has requested. Moreover, with a

sound framework.
