‘Quality’ Aston Villa ace ‘flattered’ by Liverpool’s interest as crunch summer talks likely – report

Report: “Quality” Aston Villa star is “flattered” by Liverpool’s interest as final summer negotiations are probably imminent.

According to reports, Douglas Luiz is “flattered” by the increasing interest that teams like Arsenal and Liverpool are showing in his services.

The former Manchester City player, who Roy Keane called a “quality player” on Sky Sports (via Villa News), is expected to meet with Aston Villa to discuss the prospect of a contract extension.

However, with the Villans a little wary of his potential wage demands, Football Insider reports that Champions League football next season may be a must to keep the midfielder in the West Midlands.

Could Luiz be acquired by Liverpool?

Although Wataru Endo aside, the 25-year-old, who turns 26 in May, may be teetering on the edge of the age profile we’d no doubt prefer for a midfielder, it’s not impossible for him to transfer.

As always, the question is whether Luiz gives up enough in the holding six to warrant a move, or if he offers considerably more than Alexis Mac Allister.

The Argentine’s work with the ball and possession-based statistics may be at least as good as, if not better than, those of his Villa counterpart.

Comparatively speaking, our summer addition is far from inept on defense, recording more tackles, blocks, and interceptions per 90, per FBref.

While Mac Allister has only tackled 44.7% of the dribbles faced, Luiz has tackled 51.4% of them, which is a significant increase from his Premier League average.
