Rangers “interest” in striker confirmed amid £3m price tag claim – Sky Sports.

Philippe Clement was able to get some minutes in with his players and clear the cobwebs during the two friendlies Rangers played over the holiday break, but there was another benefit.

It did, however, enable the Gers manager to identify areas where his team still needs to be strengthened and where a clear weakness exists in the front three.

Rangers are getting linked to players, but only Lawrence Shankland appears to be a legitimate goal scorer on Philippe Clement’s radar, according to Mark Banstead of Sky Sports.

Rangers holding Philippe Clement back in striker pursuit

Few would be a safer and wiser bet than the Hearts captain if Clement wants more goals at Ibrox and beyond.

Given that the player is reportedly eager to cross the M8, what is the specific reason for the delay?

During a Wednesday afternoon, January 17, Sky Sports update, Benstead stated:

The Hearts’ Lawrence Shankland is a player that the Rangers are still hoping to sign.

“If that happened, I’ve been told the numbers wouldn’t be too big to overcome and it could be finished with ease.

“However, they might need to free up some cash first and come to an agreement that he is the best player to pursue.

Within Rangers, there’s a lot of enthusiasm, but there are also skeptics who believe they should pursue someone else.

“They can’t put off things too long because they also have to consider that Hearts will have to bring in a replacement.”

It’s interesting that Lawrence Shankland doesn’t appear to be the only target Rangers gaffer Philippe Clement is considering with his recruitment team.

It’s possible that alternative options are being looked into first because we know Shankland, at a rumored £3 million, is affordable and wouldn’t need much convincing to relocate.

Since Kemar Roofe’s contract is set to expire in the summer and we don’t really have an abundance of forward players, it would make sense to bring in a goal scorer now while the title is still up for grabs, if at all possible.

Sometimes it’s best to take precautions, and other times it could be quite beneficial in the long run to support the manager.

Rangers have two weeks to back Philippe Clement and give him the tools to win the title.
