NFL media questions Cowboys’ Mike McCarthy decision

“Cowboys giving McCarthy another shot. That’s 100% pure, grass-fed, organic Definition of Insanity stuff right there.”

Mike McCarthy, the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, may have already had his bags packed and was prepared to depart town if they had been following NFL headlines over the past few days.

It appears that the seasoned coach is staying put. Jerry Jones, the general manager and owner of the Cowboys, unexpectedly announced on

Wednesday night that McCarthy will rejoin the team for the 2024 campaign.

Professionals in the sports media responded to the unexpected news right away. The undisputed host and ardent Cowboys supporter Skip Bayless expressed his feelings in a single word.

Fortunately, many analysts provided a more thorough analysis of the Cowboys’ choice. Most believed Dallas was going wrong.

“McCarthy is a good and respected coach, but it’s the wrong decision unless he can cultivate an identity for the Cowboys,” Robert Griffin III of ESPN observed.

Mike Greenberg of ESPN used a famous quotation to explain the choice. Mistakingly citing Albert Einstein for the well-known statement,

Greenberg stated, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.”

Though Einstein never stated it, a lot of media and NFL supporters had similar feelings about the Cowboys on Wednesday.

Media pros went head to head on social media in some cases debating the situation.

Kyle Brandt of NFL Network detested the Cowboys’ choice, saying, “Cowboys gonna give McCarthy another shot.” Oh God. That right there is the definition of insanity—100% organic, grass-fed, and pure.

Media professionals are almost unanimous in saying that Jerry Jones is crazy.

However, not everybody was in agreement. Greg Olsen, a Fox Sports commentator, had projected that the Cowboys would retain their troubled coach.

“Every talking head declared he was gone, every week. People feel better when they make emotional decisions. They seldom ever have favorable results,” Olsen tweeted.

The scene was perhaps best captured by renowned Cowboys hater Stephen A. Smith in a tweet that featured merely his perplexed expression.
