REPORT: Dallas Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones Makes Sweeping Change; Secret Bidding War With Eagles Coming?

REPORT: Jerry Jones, the owner of the Dallas Cowboys, makes radical changes; is a covert bidding war with the Eagles imminent?

On November 10, 2023, in Frankfurt, Germany, before an NFL International Series practice at the Deutcher Fussball-Bund facility, head coach of the New England Patriots Bill Belichick addresses the media. Nathan Ray Seebeck of USA TODAY Sports is required to be credited.

Jerry Jones, the owner of the Dallas Cowboys, altered his schedule significantly on Tuesday, which may portend even more changes this offseason. Prior to their postseason defeat in the Wild Card round by the Green Bay Packers, head coach Mike McCarthy was under pressure.

With Bill Belichick available as a free agent, Jones could replace McCarthy with a six-time Super Bowl winner. The Cowboys aren’t the only team trying to land Belichick. After reports surfaced that the Atlanta Falcons interviewed Belichick Monday night, Jones must act quickly to hire the legendary head coach.

On Tuesday, the Dallas Cowboys’ management made a move.

Jones had to cancel a crucial gig this week due to his atypically busy schedule. Shan Sariff of 105.3 The Fan reports that on Tuesday, Jerry and Stephen Jones decided not to appear during their regular radio time slot. Even though Jerry and Stephen aren’t required to go on the radio show after the Cowboys season concludes, they typically discuss it.

Jones’ decision to change his media appearance this week is something to keep an eye on, given the reports about McCarthy’s future and the possibility that the Cowboys could land Belichick. Jones spent Monday dismissing the team. He needs to get going on the head coaching front on Tuesday.

There are other NFC East teams connected to Belichick besides the Cowboys. After Monday night’s defeat by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Mike Florio of NBC Sports claims that the Eagles may be able to move on from Nick Sirianni—that is, if they can keep Belichick in check.

There is still a strong implication that, should things against the Bucs continue to go badly, a change is not out of the question. Bill Belichick’s availability might hold the key.

Just like in Dallas, where Belichick would be an upgrade over Mike McCarthy, the Eagles could decide to swap out the guy who got to one Super Bowl to the guy who got to nine, and who won six.

Perhaps the Eagles don’t want Sirianni to get too worked up before Monday night’s game. It’s possible that they wouldn’t alter unless they were positive they would land Belichick.

This offseason, there’s only one Belichick to go around. The Eagles and Cowboys do not have the luxury of publicly announcing that they had interviewed Belichick, whereas the Falcons have already sacked their coach.

The only reason the Eagles and Cowboys seem to be considering replacing their head coach is if they can bring in Belichick this offseason and improve. They don’t want to draw attention to themselves by approaching Belichick since that would be detrimental to their existing head coach.

There may be a covert bidding war between two fierce NFC East rivals this week in the NFL if the reports and speculations about the Eagles and Cowboys seeking Belichick are true. If the Eagles or Cowboys can persuade Belichick to join their sideline, the intricacies of such a bidding war will make for an entertaining read.
