Rangers now offered chance to sign “creative” new player for Clement

After losing in the Old Firm, Rangers currently trail Celtic by eight points with two games remaining. With the three points, they gave Brendan Rodgers the lead in the title fight. Plenty can still go wrong, and Philippe Clement will want to welcome in some players who will define the season.

The former AS Monaco manager has already signed Wolverhampton Wanderers attacker Fabio Silva to a loan, which may turn out to be a wise move. Rangers might potentially welcome a dynamic midfield player back to the Premier League.

Rangers transfer news

The January transfer window could make or break Rangers’ season. Get it right and the Scottish Premiership title race could swing in their favour once more. Get it wrong, however, and Celtic could stroll to a third consecutive league win to cement their crown yet again under Rodgers. It’s the first chance that those at Ibrox are getting to see Clement’s transfer tactic and the types of players he could tempt into moves.

La Derniere Heure reports that Brighton & Hove Albion has made contact with Rangers on the possibility of signing Steven Alzate this month. The midfield player is now on loan at Standard Liege, and it has been stated that Clement has been monitoring the Belgium Pro League in order to bring in other players.

The Seagulls are apparently eager to cash in on Alzate’s contract, possibly shortening his loan transfer to give Rangers a significant boost, given his deal expires this summer. The Brighton midfielder is now recuperating from an injury back in England, so keep an eye on him.

“Creative” Alzate could hand Rangers fresh life

In a tightly-contested title race, Rangers will need to gain any edge they can over Celtic, be it through the January transfer window or internal options. Alzate could particularly hand them a boost going forward as a creative midfielder. As things stand, Clement has just Todd Cantwell who fits that criteria, which could give the Gers problems if an injury crisis hit the Belgian’s squad.

In terms of creativity, Alzate’s stats are encouraging. His 0.23 assists per 90 minutes places him in the 94th percentile when compared to other midfielders in his position, which might work in the Rangers’ favor if they make a move. Before Alzate went on loan to Standard Liege, Josh Bunting, a football writer, wrote the following on X:

Alzate might be someone Rangers want to keep an eye on as the weeks pass and they weigh their options; considering his contract status and Brighton’s eagerness to cash in, a deal might not be too difficult.
